PostgreSQL Egypt

The PostgreSQL User Group in Egypt

A home for Postgres people in Egypt

We're developers, DBAs, data engineers, and students who work with PostgreSQL every day, or want to. We meet to share what we've learned, dig into how things really work, and help each other run better databases.

PG Day Egypt 2027

When
2027 · date to be announced
Where
Cairo, Egypt

Our first PG Day: a full day of PostgreSQL talks in Cairo, given by people who use it every day. Free to attend.

What we talk about

Practical talks from people who run Postgres for real. No vendor pitches.

Performance
Reading EXPLAIN ANALYZE output, choosing the right index, and tracking down the one query that's eating your CPU.
Running it in production
Backups you've actually restored, replication and failover, major version upgrades, and keeping autovacuum happy.
Building on it
Schema design, JSONB, full-text search, and the extensions that make Postgres so much more than a database, from PostGIS to pgvector.
Under the hood
MVCC, WAL, the planner, and how Postgres is actually developed — including how to start contributing yourself.

Get involved

  1. Come along

Show up, listen, ask questions. You don't need to be an expert and you don't need to know anyone. Every event we run is free.

  2. Give a talk

Migrated a big database? Untangled a lock pile-up? Wrote an extension? That's a talk. First-time speakers are welcome, and we'll help you prepare.

  3. Host or sponsor

A room, coffee, or a budget for recording talks makes a real difference. If your company runs on Postgres, this is a good way to give back.
